💥!PREMIERE! 💥HANCOQ - ‘GROOVE’ Official Video
Born in New Zealand to Ethiopian parents, Melbourne raised rapper and producer Hancoq is a new kind of Australian artist who offers a unique take on hip-hop. In 2018, he released his self-titled debut EP, claiming over 700k overall streams, with his laid back and melodic approach to rap and eclectic trap production from the likes of GVNXVS and Hopium helping him break away from the pack.
Starting 2019 by joining Soulection on stage at Howler, shutting down the New Music stage at St Kilda Festival, as well as being selected to support Dckwrth, Fortunes, Golden Vessel & Oscar Key Sung — Hancoq has become a serious contender in Australia’s rapidly evolving hip-hop climate. Hancoq has also spent the year honing his skills as a producer, working out of a studio in Footscray above his parent’s restaurant and helping to develop some of the city's strongest upcoming artists including KVKA and Savage the Girl.
Alongside Cass Navarro (Acclaim Magazine), Hancoq co-founded his own indie label: Mirage Records, to serve as a platform for his music as well as hidden local talent in the urban music space.
Following up his UK Garage influenced September release 'Cards'—which saw plenty of playlist love from Spotify and Apple Music, as well as spins across Triple J and Independent radio—is the Hamley produced ‘Groove’, a quick 2-minute pop-rap heater that's sure to beg for a replay and get butts on the dancefloor. The video, directed by Khahn Nguyen is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on life in the digital age, focusing on Hancoq falling in love with an e-girl.
